Betsy Kunzer
Artsit Statement: " I would call my style a combination of realism and impressionism. The realism is a holdover from the years of nature photography and biology when I concentrated on an animals eyes, expression, and body structure. The impressionism comes from a concern for body language and from working the clay primarily with my hands and a minimal number of tools. When I am developing a sculpture I usually have an image in my mind of what I want the piece to express. I then work from a combination of photographs, trips to the field or zoo, videos and if possible from measurements of the subject. All these sources blend together (sometimes changing in the process) until the sculpture captures an aspect or moment which expresses my feeling for the subject." Betsy Kunzer
