Shryl Miles
Shryl Miles graduated from California State University, Fullerton with a bachelor of fine arts degree in graphic design. She also studied for 2 years with renowned California artist and teacher Hal Reed, founder of The Art League of Los Angles.
In 2008 Shryl returned to painting after an extensive break of over 25 years. Although she was involved in the art world during that time she was unable to pursue her painting due to the pressures of college, employment and family obligations. 2008 became a pivotal year for Shryl. Her decision to make painting a priority has brought her tremendous personal satisfaction. The time spent away from painting was not wasted. It enabled her to realize how important art is to her and how she needs to incorporate it into her life.
Although proficient in oil and acrylic, Shryl’s preferred media is watercolor. She feels the greatest challenge for a watercolor artist is preserving the white in the painting. She does this without benefit of masking materials or white paint and feels a great since of accomplishment when a painting is completed to her satisfaction.
Shryl’s interest in various subject matter, media and style has lead her to make a conscious decision to paint in series’ of paintings. This allows her the opportunity to explore different genre, styles and media and learn how each relates to a particular subject matter. She feels this shifting of genre, style and media will keep her work fresh while preventing her from getting “locked” into any particular category. She recently completed a series of 15 floral/plant paintings. She also completed a series of desert scenes utilizing the computer program PowerPoint as a drawing tool to draw, color and assemble 15 collages works. She is currently working on her Salvage/Recycle series.
