Thane Scott Hoyte
September 18, 1964 – December 2, 2003
Thane was a caring and dedicated individual whose heart touched every person he met. He lived nearly his entire life with cancer, but many never knew because he was a strong and quiet man. Thane didn’t talk about himself very much, choosing to concentrate on his friends and family, giving gifts generously.
Thane enjoyed a number of years in remission and was able to pursue his love of family, friends, wildlife, the outdoors and bowling. As a young boy, he played several sports and was a member of Boy Scouts. After high school he worked full time at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and attended Olympic College. Thane also found time to pursue flying lessons and his passion for art. In 1998 he married Delia Ortiz and became a stepfather to her daughter Dianna. His role as husband and dad was a cherished one.
Many of his friends did not know that he was a talented artist and that many of his family have the privilege of owning some of his artwork. His artwork reflected his deep love of animals and nature. Thane began painting at the age of 13 with acrylics and started working with pastels in his mid-20s. He felt that the pastels captured how he felt about nature and world he was depicting. We know that Thane would be proud to share prints of his paintings and would be thrilled that we are raising money for others afflicted with cancer like he was.
A portion of the profits from the sale of these prints will be donated to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle in Thane’s memory.
